Alexmas 2022 programme

And now for something completely different?

In addition to the 20+ local artists and makers working/selling at the Alex over the 12 days of Alexmas, and the extra displays in the garden we have extra special events on each of the 12 days of Alexmas ...  (* the timings show when the Alex is open, the music and activity session will vary within these times, unless stated below).

In case you missed it there is even a carol!

#1 Thursday 1st Dec, 4-8pm*
Ben Jennings and Ross Edwards - original compositions, folk, country, soul.

#2 Friday 2nd Dec, 11am-5pm*
Steve Davies printmaker (@stevedavies1st) will be showing you how to use handmade stamps from craft foam to print cards and build up images.

#3 Saturday 3rd Dec, 11am-5pm*
Lee Huacker will be demonstrating now to make junk mail into lovely hanging stars.
BYO junk mail to recycle rubbish into loveliness. (The Alex likes to support sustainability where we can so we will make some for the bar!).

#4 Sunday 4th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Chris Pegler (@peglerpurl) will demonstrate various ways to make braids for wrapping presents, stringing decorations etc. BYO yarn or use the provided yarn.

#6 Friday 9th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Very special day! Dress-as-a-steampunk for Steve's birthday. Several of us will, including Vikki Skinner (@just_like_ivy) is also teaching how to crochet bows. BYO yarn or use the provided yarn.

#7 Saturday 10th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Jessica Hartshorn (@jessi_illustrates) is running a paper wreath activity from 1-3pm. This one is particlar suited to children. Materials provided. £1 per child. Jess will also be reading from her new Super Panda book and selling her work.

#8 Sunday 11th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Carol Wheeler (who is also the artist-in-the-gallery during December) will be showing how to make gelli prints. Come along and try this technique.

#9 Thursday 15th Dec, 4-8pm*
Ed Creyton and Robert Miles Barnett - stripped back singer-songwriters (live local music in the cafe-gallery)

#10 Friday 16th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Jenny Ball (@Ditherellasworkshop) will be teaching how to make baubles out of beerbottle caps. BYO metal bottle caps to have a go. (Sounds like an excuse to drink something?)

#11 Saturday 17th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Lee Hauckner (@Treasurewrap) will be showing how to us fabric to create reusable wrapping for gifts. She will have scrap fabric to try with and also packaged special fabrics if you want to go specially fancy!

#12 Sunday 18th Dec, 11am-5pm*
Gemma Whitefird (@Gemscreativeplace) will be leading some sessions on Mindful Drawing, just the thing for a relaxing interlude before the storm!

Thursday 22nd Dec  & Friday 23rd Dec (11am-5pm) the cafe-gallery, cabinets and card racks will still be here to welcome visitors but its not as full-on as during Alexmas. Chris and Steve will be getting ready for shut down from 24th Dec to 11th Feb. Tea/Coffee mulled drinks and cake will be available meantime as they bid adieu before starting work behind the scenes on the next stage of the Alex.
