Monday Nights at the Alex (First Thursday, 7th September)

Pleased announce local musicians Monday Nights as our next First Thursday visitors (performing here 6-8pm, 7th September). Come earlier for poetry and a tasty inexpensive vegetarian/vegan dinner.

Back to the music .... Monday Nights in their own words: 'We blend melodic and rhythmic parts, soaring vocals behind a big backbeat with synthetic soundscapes. Since forming just prior to the lockdown at the end of 2019 in Rugby, as well as learning songwriting, a lot of time has been spent focusing on creating a defined sound and hook-laden music, and doing this independently down to every aspect of the process including audio and visuals, this is something they believe is integral to their mission as a band'. They have had multiple radio plays on BBC Introducing, and are definitely an act to pay close attention to.

Further information from these innovative musicians ... 'Influences include Orla Gartland, Little Comets, Jeff Buckley, half•alive and Glass Animals. This results in a wide range of instrumentation and fresh approach to alternative music'. They talk about 'thought provoking lyrics, anthemic melodies and interesting artwork' (note that promo photo!). You can find out more and hear their latest singe 'Turrah' on their website www.mondaynightsmusic.com. But why listen to these online when next week you can hear them in person!

Don't forget the poetry

As mentioned above we are open from 4pm so come earlier if you fancy an inexpensive veggie/vegan meal and want to listen or take part in the poetry readings (from 5pm in the cafe). Steve Davies is planning to share the artwork as well as his translation of the Anna Blume poem by Dadist poet Kurt Schwitters. Well strange, but other poets will also be available so don't be put off!
