Closed during August - what were we up to?

Steve investigates where the damp wall problem

Steve and I use the time when the Alex is closed (August and from late Dec to mid-Feb) to get big work done that would otherwise be difficult. Its an old building! We started with the essential work (remember the burst pipes in Dec 2022?) and we have worked through the building. Roof, heating, back room, chimneys, corridors, kitchen.

Priorities this August have been are getting making the bar and cafe area more comfortable (and warmer) for the coming winter. Ventilating the cellar and addressing condensation issues there and on the bar room wall. You will definitely notice the difference in terms of comfort when you visit. As we are also working on the kitchen/serving area finished ready for more pop up chefs to use the cafe and bar areas are going to be places you want to linger while viewing the art.

Hanging Leah Stuarts Placefulness exhibition - check out the carpet

Its also a time to sort the admin and plan events to take us through to the end of the year. Including some opportunities to exhibit work here. If you are an artist then check out the Exhibiting page
If you are a would-be visitor check out the What's On page. Plenty of reasons to visit in the Autumn.

(Note that we do not re-open until the 6th September, no First Thursday music this month, but there is a Shanties and Pirate Songs evening on the 19th Sept (third Thursday).
