Call for artists - Summer Arts Show at the Alex

Eric and Steve hanging Eric's show at the Alex in April 2023 Across the past year we have had 50 talented local artists and makers show their work at the Alex. (As we have only been open around 70 days so far that is impressive, but we would like to take things further and show work by more artists here this summer). Enter the Summer Arts Show at the Alex (10-16th July 2023). This timing will allow us to use the spaces used by the 20 artists for Warwickshire Open Studios at the Alex anddo this with event more artists. It means that we can show BIG work, work by artists who are new to the Alex and some of the new-to-area and new-to-art-exhibitions artists in the area. We can also make use of our range of our plinths, cabinets and display cases to showcasee 3D and delicate work. It has been one of the delights of being at the Alex that we often get to meet artists we have never met before. Finding beauty through art

On Saturday (27th May 2023), more than seven hours after we had closed our doors following a lovely couple of days, the windows at the front of the Alex were smashed repeatedly by a hammer (20+ whacks!). So the front of the Alex looks sad and strange at the moment. We are mournng the windows that have been decorated for special occasions, showed off displays and offered a glimpse of the wonders we have inside. Its now a police case - thankfully there were some brave witnesses and also camera footage. We expect to get the windows replaced swiftly, but we did not want to board up and cancel imminent events. So the windows will still be bearing these visible scars if you visit for 1st June First Thursday, or for the next couple of weekends. As the notice out front says, both Chris and Steve are fine, the art and garden are still lovely, we are open as usual. Please do not defer your visit because of the state of the windows. Warwickshire Open Studios at the Alex - first half review

Have we managed to fit in twenty local artists and makers (and still with room for visitors?) Yes we have! Its been busy but we have had time for the odd moment of relaxation and the opportunity to make more art. The garden has been a magnet - although the north facing gallery cafe has a welcome cool because of the pub cellar! Ceramacist Darcy Hill - poster girl for Napton cider? Its been a glorious four days and we are all looking forward to another four days before we close this show down on 2nd July. The artists have been splendid and the visitors have been interested and at times intrigued. Its been especially lovely to show off the place to Rugby MP Mark Pawsey, Mayor Cllr Maggie O'Rourke (who launched our event), Deputy Mayor Simon Ward and several other local councillors.
