Jane Archer's 'Blooms and Beyond' - the Alex's May exhibition

Really looking forward to having Jane Archer's larger artworks at the Alex throughout May. Jane's cards have always been a firm favourite here. Called 'Blooms and Beyond' her exhibit will be open Fridays and Saturdays in May (10-4), during our First Thursday (4-8 on 4th May) and also during our two Sunday openings (Coronation weekend, 7th and Bikefest, 21st), 10-4. Please come and visit.

Here is an introduction to Jane for those unfamiliar with her work. She discovered watercolour while living in France during a partial retirement from her second career - teaching.

Mastering these slippery pigments quickly became a lifelong aim, coupled with the joy of
learning to embrace the happy accidents that emerge unbidden.

Many of my paintings celebrate the beauty of flowers, and lately I have been exploring the
depth and structure of familiar blooms, delving deep to reveal unexpected colours and
complex shapes.

I am also drawn to trees and to landscapes, both countryside and coastal, and enjoy
nothing more than sitting painting en plein air, preferably with sand between my toes and a
sea breeze on my face. Happily, living so far from the coast, the sun and wind through
swaying branches is an equally welcome substitute.

Jane is this year challenging herself to experiment with new materials and techniques and hoping for some interesting and exciting results! So watch out for some new work here and also at Art
In Dunchurch this June, where she'll be exhibiting as part of Warwickshire Open Studios.

Jane lives in Toft on the edge of Dunchurch, sharing her time between painting and teaching. She loves
welcoming people into her bright, sunny studio space for small group classes and occasional workshops. (See  www.janearcherart.co.uk  for more information and follow her on Instagram @janearcherart).
